Eternal Lamp: I am the eternal lamp. My task is simple, but laden with meaning. My light burns continuously to indicate that Christ is truly present here — in this sacred space, but even more so... in you, the tabernacle. My flame is not a decoration, but a sign of the mystery that dwells here: the real presence of the Lord under the forms of bread.
Tabernacle: That is correct. I am the tabernacle — literally a “tent of meeting”, as with the people of Israel in the desert. In me is kept the Holy of Holies: the Body of Christ, consecrated during the Eucharist. Not just a symbol, but truly: His body, soul and divinity. I carry Him, hidden but truly present.
Eternal lamp: People see me before they see you. I am placed near your door. When they see me burning, they know they are in the presence of the sacramental mystery. My light invites them to reverence, silence, adoration. Without you, my presence would have no meaning.
Tabernacle: And without you, my presence might be forgotten. You help the faithful remember what often remains hidden from view but is central to the faith: that God is not only in heaven, but also truly present in the Eucharist — tangible, close by. I am the ark of the new covenant. Not stone tablets, but the true Bread from heaven is kept in me.
God's lamp: Together we fulfil a silent but essential role in the liturgy and spiritual life of the Church. You are the place of worship; I am the sign that the worship is justified. When my flame is extinguished, it is a sign that the Body of Christ is not present in you — for example, on Good Friday, when the sacrament is removed from the church.
Tabernacle: And when it is brought back, you are the first to celebrate with light. Together we reflect the rhythm of the liturgical year, the death and resurrection of Christ, His absence and His glorious return. You are the sign; I am the dwelling place. But in everything we are focused on Him, who has given Himself permanently to the Church.
Eucharistic lamp: We do not speak, and yet we proclaim a profound truth. We invite people to encounter the Mystery of faith: Christ is truly present. Not only in memory, but in living reality. And those who realise this bow their heads... or their hearts.
